What To Expect from a Rina Yoga Teacher Training

I have always said to my trainees who go through my training, “If you found yourself here it’s because you were looking for something more in your life, not just in your physical practice.”

I have noticed that I tend to attract a certain kind of student.
It’s the student who is seeking a deeper truth within themselves and in their lives.
It’s the student who is willing to be more open-minded and open-hearted even if it’s a little scary.
It’s the student who considers themselves “the black sheep” so to speak.
It’s the student who recognizes that they have a lot to learn.
It’s the student who questions and also isn’t afraid to get questioned.
It’s also the student who has some emotional baggage but who wants to find a freedom with it as well. It’s the student who learns that his/her self-development will only happen with consistent effort and dedication.
It’s the student who forgets this is a life-long process sometimes because of impatience and self-judgment and then remembers again either on their own, with help from fellow yogi trainees or after a little chat with me.
It’s the student who wants to help the world become a better place but doesn’t really know where to start.

What does this have to do with what to expect from a Rina Yoga Teacher Training?

The type of student is always important to consider because that will determine what you’ll get out of our training. What you’ll get out of the training is what you put into it – 100%. Notice that none of my phrases above say “It’s the teacher who…” The reason is because I don’t focus on building great teachers. Instead, I focus on developing committed, receptive and loving students. This will automatically generate a great teacher. Hence, why this training is for anyone who is merely willing to learn – not with the expectation of becoming the world’s best yoga teacher.

We do discuss the details of how to communicate and observe as a highly skilled teacher in addition to breaking down the anatomy of the poses, the optimal execution of the poses, breath work, energy work, chanting, sequencing, class elements, Sanskrit words, yoga marketing, the business of yoga, and much, much more.

The heart and soul of this training is in applying the philosophy in our daily lives. This is where the transformation happens from being an instructor to a teacher. An instructor just points and cues, but a teacher teaches and can get as deep or as shallow with each student according to where the student is. And this is what the training will provide for you. I, as your temporary teacher, will go as deep or as shallow as you need me to. Your growth will depend on that.

So if you are at a point in your life that you know you need that extra loving push in a direction in your life that is based on truth, courage and knowledge, then hold my hand and I’ll make sure you’re safe and loved all along the way. I won’t promise that it won’t be bumpy at times, but I will promise that when there’s a bump, there will always be a place to land on your own two feet.

One powerful and beautiful thing to expect from this training is that you will make new friends for life. This has been proven throughout the years. No matter how many years have passed I still see fellow trainees getting together and celebrating life together. It’s a bond that will never break. So, plant some seeds and grow some roots with new friends that will support your bumps and lands throughout this journey separately yet together.

And finally, (inserting cliché) expect the unexpected… as that is life. Yet the training will help you manage those unexpected moments much better and smoother every time! 🙂
