Our Community Return to India – Yoga Retreat
with Rina Jakubowicz and Eric Paskel
January 28 – February 7, 2026
Lonavala, India

We return to the Vedanta Academy as an intentional act of humility and reflection—
to continue refining our choices, deepening our clarity, and aligning with our higher purpose
under the guidance of a true teacher.
| Every once in a while, life hands you a moment that humbles you, stretches you, and ultimately frees you. I had one of those moments two years ago with my Guru in India. This month, I returned to see if the work I’ve done since would hold up—and the experience surprised even me.
Dear Yoga Family, Two years ago, on our previous yoga retreat to the Vedanta Academy, I was presented with the opportunity of a lifetime. Our teacher – whom we lovingly call Swamiji – challenged me in a way that will forever rock me in two valuable ways… First, I was rocked by hearing what felt like a negative perspective of me. My nervous system and emotionally fragile ego revolted internally, and I had to hold back tears. You should also know that in the 12 years I’ve known Swamiji, I become a paralyzed, self-judging mute in front of him—unable to fully be myself. For some back story, my whole life my mom maintained a positive space where only positive feelings were allowed. We never disrespected one another with verbally abusive language or name-calling. I wasn’t even allowed to say someone was “stupid”—that was considered a bad word in our household. So imagine my surprise decades later, being confronted with my guru’s powerfully pungent words that many could define as “negative” or “hurtful.” Luckily, my desire to learn and grow was more important than my ego getting crushed. I decided to reflect on how his words were correct and how I could be and do better. When I returned home from that retreat, I straightened out any jagged actions, self-serving intentions, or selfishness exposed. Of course, I still have plenty of selfishness, but I decided to expand my blind spots as much as possible so I could see more clearly and act more aligned. This decision brought about the following: – Stopped studying daily in the morning. This removed the pressure of discipline and helped me focus on practical application instead. Phew! This list is here because I had been cheating myself for years and couldn’t be honest with myself about it, which stunted my growth. Ultimately, I did what I ought to do. Go figure—that’s what the teachings say all along. But it took my Guru kicking me in the ego’s arse to actually do it. I wouldn’t have done it without that massive push. Fast forward to our return to our teacher this past month. On one hand, I was scared I might regress to the mute, frozen Rina. On the other hand, I knew how hard I’d worked to embrace my flaws and my gifts. I didn’t feel the need to prove to him, “Look! I’ve grown.” I needed to prove it to myself. I needed to know I could rise in front of the Guru. And upon this return, it happened. In the initial moments, I had all the jitters and old patterns rush back. But I said to myself, “Fuck this, Rina! This is your moment.” And through some awkward internal redirection and external expression, my voice came out… my body moved freely and joyously… and I was fully me. Don’t get me wrong, I still have massive reverence for my Guru. In fact, even more now, because I was willing to expose the true me in front of him. That freedom is irreplaceable. And all of this happened because I took my teacher’s seemingly negative words and made them positive. I made them my inner compass for how to live—and how not to live. That is the power of a true teacher. The passion Eric and I have to keep returning to India is SOLELY because we know that nowhere else, no one else, will be as honest and loving with their speech and actions. We want that example so we can try to live by it when we come home. We know we aren’t perfect. But we are hungry to be better every single day. How hungry are you? You deserve it. Give yourself permission to receive it. You are worthy. With gratitude, Rina P.S. So all this to say: we are returning again in January 2026 for another retreat at the Vedanta Academy, with two bonus visits to see the master himself in his home. And if those small encounters can change my life in such meaningful and tangible ways, I invite you to come and see how yours can change too. |

Why This Matters Now
Where we live — whether in LA, Miami, Athens, Detroit, or anywhere else — the world is unintentionally designed to keep us from finding ourselves. Chaos, distraction, noise… it erodes the shine.
The Academy is the opposite.
It is the best place in the world to discover who you truly are.
This is why we have devoted our lives to this path — because once you taste that clarity, you can’t go back. And if you’re in our lives — as students, teachers, colleagues, friends, family — we hold the bar high. Not for perfection, but for cleaning up our inner world so we can live with more freedom, more compassion, more wisdom.
A Day in the Life at the Vedanta Academy
Imagine waking early into stillness.
- Two hours of self-study in your room (optional but treasured).
- A morning prayer at 4:20 a.m. (Beautiful — I don’t go, but Rina does and you may!)
- Followed by Tea.
- A Traditional Hatha yoga class.
- Then: Basketball, volleyball, the gym(it’s got everything and then some), table tennis, badminton, pickle ball, long walks — the most refreshingly simple, grounded start to your day.
- Breakfast.
- And then the lecture hall — a place that feels like stepping into another world. Looking out at the oldest Buddhist caves in India while chanting together… sitting among 100+ students from across the world, all in uniform, all there with intention — it is indescribable.
- When the lecture ends, we change into sweats and step into Karma Yoga — everyone receives a role aligned with their nature. It could be helping with online inquiries, cooking, farming, marketing materials, caring for the grounds — all of it is a glimpse into the daily rhythm that keeps the ashram alive.
- Lunch.
- A quiet nap.
- Afternoon tea while the whole ashram slows into a soft hum.
- Another period of study or lecture.
- Small group study circles to learn how to think and question clearly.
- Bhajans — live music, call and response, the kind of singing that cracks you open.
- Dinner.
- Sleep. ZZZZZzzzz.
Every day feels like decades and also disappears in a blink.

The India You Will See
You’ll explore temples (optional.)
Hike the Buddhist caves.
Spend time in Pune in the Master.
Visit the village the Swamiji built from scratch — over 40 homes for the people who work at the Academy. No contracts. No red tape. Just pure giving.
And yes, you’ll see the full spectrum of India — beauty, poverty, humanity — but you’ll get the best of India because of the space we’re held in. It’s unlike anywhere else on earth.
You will also have time with the master — real time. A meal in his home. Connection that many people never get the chance to experience.
You’ll be taken care of every step of the way.
And once you’re there, every obstacle you thought was so big — financial, logistical, emotional — will dissolve into nothing. Truly.
Because what you receive is clarity. Purity. A vision of yourself and of life that stays with you long after you return home.

If Your Heart Feels Even a Tiny Pull… Come.
We will help you figure out finances if needed (we have passport and visa services.)
We will help you plan logistics.
Just reach out — email, text, call, schedule time with either of us.
When one has a “why” they can always find the “how”.
Ask friends and family for the holidays to donate towards this, use it as your next bunch of birthday gifts, gift it to yourself and we are happy to gift you as well.
This will be the last time we get to meet Swamiji in this format.
We won’t bring a group in 2026. Maybe in 2028, but not like this; this treasured format will be no more.
If you’ve ever felt curious… if you’ve ever felt the spark…
This is the moment. We leave soon and would love to have you!!
