All Grown Up

My little baby wants to grow up and be set free so what is a mother to do? Let it happen.

Almost ten yecupidbestars ago I gave birth to a baby called Rina Yoga when I opened her doors on the unassuming 2nd floor of 2490 Coral Way. We were sharing space and we only had a mere three classes a week. But as the years went by, Rina Yoga kept reshaping and shifting on her own. She became something bigger than just a 2nd floor hidden space to do yoga… she became a family, a community. She touched people’s hearts while her heart was being touched as well. But she always felt that one day she would need to spread her wings and fly. Her vision was deeper, not necessarily bigger.

So here we are, almost ten years later, and it seems that now is the time for a more impactful transformation. Change happens every day even if we aren’t aware of it. If we were conscious of all the changes happening in our bodies we might just collapse of exhaustion. We are blinking, breathing, digesting, pumping blood, secreting hormones, moving muscles, registering sounds and sights, and the list goes on and on…

The emotional changes are the ones that are more difficult to swallow and handle because one of our biggest debilitating emotions is fear. And fear hinders growth and a flowing change. Instead it is stifling although change is still happening even if it seems less obvious. Our fear of change comes from our nasty habit to become attached to people, places and things. This, unfortunately, happens when we aren’t knowledgeable enough of the truth within us. So we suffer.

But I’m choosing not to suffer with the changes that are happening with my baby girl Rina Yoga. Instead I’m choosing to embrace them and see this as a necessary shift in order to evolve as her destiny is clearly asking for.

The changes are simple; Rina Yoga classes in the Coral Way location are moving to the Downtown location. So it’s not that bad of a change just an adjustment. The building was sold to a new owner and we were given a 60-day notice to get out. I tried to resist the kick-out but then I just surrendered and said “this is what is best and necessary. If my little baby wants to grow up I can’t keep giving her a pacifier. She’s outgrown it and setting her free is the best way to show her how much I believe in her.

This is what I’m doing with the Coral Way location. I’m setting her free. It’s been 10 years and it has been a beautiful journey in this space which we have morphed into the love and warmth that it embodies today. But Rina Yoga isn’t a physical place or location… it’s a feeling. It’s a bond. It’s a community. It’s a support group. It’s a family. It’s all love hence why our sign says “You Are Here!” with an arrow pointing to her heart. That is what the essence of Rina Yoga is all about… Staying connected regardless of the external circumstances.

So this is a big test for you as one of our students and as part of our community. Even if these doors are closing, our other doors are opening wider. Downtown is growing so rapidly with just one other yoga studio there so can you help us grow the Rina Yoga community in Downtown by staying connected and taking the extra minutes of your day to spend it traveling to us there? It’s an extra eight minutes which will be well worth it. Prove to yourself and to the community that you are worth it for you. We will do the same for you. We will continue to give you the best service and love that we’ve always given. Our Rina Yoga Angels are here for you and your questions.

I believe deeply within me that this forced change is a blessing and we all made it happen! Thank you so much for your dedication and your commitment to being part of this ever-loving community.

If you want to comment below and share any story that you remember about this specific studio space, we would love to hear it. 🙂 Let’s laugh, cry and smile together as we move through this change together. I’m here to answer any of your questions.

Yours and Namaste’,
Love always,

Rina

FAQs
These are some questions you may have so we have considered them already but if you have more please feel free to reach out to us.

  1. Can my package transfer there? Yes, of course.
  2. What’s the schedule going to be like? It will be very similar to the one we have in 2490 with a few tweaks to the morning classes. Stay connected to find out the exact schedule soon.
  3. What are my parking options? We validate your valet for $5. You can also park in the Whole Foods Parking garage if you plan on going to Whole Foods afterwards (which is right across the street) and the parking is free. Yey for yummy food options after yoga!
  4. What about traffic? There is always traffic in Miami and I can’t do anything about that, but you can take the Metrorail and get off on the James L. Knight Center station and walk across the street.
  5. Is Downtown safe? Yes there is always security around the hotel.
  6. Can I use the other facilities in the hotel? You can use the locker rooms, showers, sauna, (YES SAUNA AND SHOWERS) but not the gym nor the pool.
  7. How big is the room? The space is smaller but if we show how much we have a big community the hotel is open to providing us with a bigger room for that specific class that is too large for the space. It’s still big enough for a nice size class and let’s show LA and NY that we can handle having our mats close to each other. Let’s set the new standard for “We are united! Sweat, mats, space and all!”
  8. Will I still get the same teachers? Most of our teachers are able to shift to the new location so you are still going to be taken care of.
  9. Will there be any other changes? As the beginning of this article shares, we are always changing but yoga helps us know how to move through them together gracefully. And the changes that are happening should be called evolutions because our community is growing nationally and internationally.
