Tonight was incredible! I had my first red carpet experience and it was a hoot! (Yes I said hoot!) Why? Because it was quite a spectacle of fancy people mingling, drinking, posing, and eating! I made it a point to turn it into a conscious exercise: I observed myself and my surroundings without letting myself get caught up in it. Marc Anthony played live and I couldn’t believe that hardly anyone was dancing, but you guys know me!!! I got up, even though I was in the front row of tables (Table 1 to be exact) and I danced my butty off. No one would dance with me because “people just don’t do that here.” Well, you know what I say to that? “That’s hoshposh!!!” So I danced, by my chair, by myself and I had a blast!! Around me was Alejandro Sanz, Don King, Lucero, Ana Guevara, Diego Luna, Marco Antonio Regil (who happen to be my date for the night) and many more.
The funny thing is that I am oblivious to who are the Latin stars since I wasn’t raised in that world. It was really special to meet these people as regular people just like you and me and without the stigma of “ooooh, they are famous!” I was completely natural and able to see them for who they truly were. There was no ego in any of our conversations since there was no feeling of better than or less than! From my perception, which is the only one I can control, we were all just beings playing the fun roles of dressing up, meeting new people and doing what we do in those fancy settings.
What a blessing and a wonderful evening…
Namaste Marco Antonio for your new friendship, David Romanelli for making the connection and Alexis for being so understanding! 🙂
